Post 4 – My First Translations in WP Polyglots

Introduction

Once I became familiar with the WP Polyglots workflow, I was ready to make my first translation contributions. This was an exciting milestone because it allowed me to actively participate in the WordPress open-source community and apply what I had learned during the onboarding process.

What I Did

I accessed the Weaver Xtreme translation project for the Spanish (Costa Rica) – es_CR locale through translate.wordpress.org. I reviewed the untranslated strings, analyzed their context, and submitted my first translation suggestions following the WordPress translation guidelines.

Before submitting each translation, I made sure the wording was clear, consistent, and appropriate for Costa Rican Spanish while preserving variables, placeholders, and technical elements.

What I Learned

My first translations taught me that attention to detail is essential in software localization. Every string must accurately convey the original meaning while sounding natural to the target audience.

I also learned that every contribution is part of a collaborative review process, where feedback from experienced translators helps improve both the quality of the translations and my own localization skills.
