Introduction

The WPCredits onboarding process was my first step toward becoming a WordPress contributor. Before I could start translating, I needed to set up the required accounts, learn how the community works, and become familiar with the tools contributors use.

This stage provided the foundation I needed to participate confidently in the WordPress open-source ecosystem.

What I Did

As part of the onboarding process, I created my WordPress.org account, completed my public profile, and connected my profile picture using Gravatar. I also joined the Making WordPress Slack workspace and the #wpcredits channel, where I accessed important information, announcements, and community resources.

Additionally, I completed the introductory lessons on Learn WordPress, which explained the goals of the project, the contribution process, and the best practices for working within the community.

What I Learned

Through the onboarding process, I learned that contributing to WordPress is about more than technical skills. It requires collaboration, clear communication, and respect for community guidelines.

I also gained a better understanding of the tools, workflows, and expectations that contributors follow, giving me the confidence to begin my work with the WP Polyglots team.
